    Dr Richard Bradbury, Associate Professor, Tropical Public Health and Medicine James Cook University

    This full day educational workshop will focus on the latest innovations and trends around Tropical Medicine, led by Associate Professor Dr Richard Bradbury. A/Prof Bradbury is an internationally recognised parasitologist and is the former Team Lead of the Parasitic Diseases Diagnostic Reference Laboratory at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States of America. He is a member of the World Health Organization (WHO) Diagnostic Technical Advisory group for Neglected Tropical Diseases, and the WHO focus group for the ongoing implementation of the Gap Assessment Tool for Neglected Tropical Diseases – Diagnostics. In 2023, he was a member of the select team which wrote the WHO Guidelines for Public health Control of Strongyloidiasis. He has published widely and is an editor for the prestigious journal Emerging Infectious Diseases and Parasitology Section Editor for the American Society for Microbiology's textbook, The Manual Of Clinical Microbiology.

    The transition from military service to civilian life can be a complex and deeply personal journey, often accompanied by psychological and emotional challenges. The toll of combat, high-stress environments, and prolonged operational demands can leave lasting impacts on mental health, affecting everything from sleep and relationships to overall well-being. "Calm After Combat: Healing and Mental Peace Post-Service" is a dedicated workshop designed to provide military personnel, veterans, and healthcare professionals with the tools to navigate post-service mental health challenges and foster long-term resilience.     Massive Haemorrhage Protocol: Advancing Trauma Response

    In the face of major trauma, rapid, coordinated response to haemorrhagic shock is critical to saving lives. This advanced workshop brings together some of Australia’s foremost experts in trauma, emergency medicine, haematology, and transfusion science to explore the evolving best practices in managing massive bleeding in both military and civilian settings.
    Led by CDRE Anthony Holley, Consultant Intensivist and Defence Trauma Lead, and joined by Professor Biswadev Mitra (Alfred Health & Monash University) and Dr Anastazia Keegan (King Edward Memorial Hospital & Australian Red Cross Lifeblood), the panel will guide participants through key topics including:

    • Massive Haemorrhage Protocol principles and implementation
    • Current recommendations from the National Blood Authority’s Critical Bleeding Guidelines
    • Adjunct therapies: TXA, Prothrombin Complex Concentrates, recombinant Factor VIIa and more
    • Target-driven resuscitation and physiological endpoints
    • Emerging innovations in blood component therapy: Deep Frozen Blood Products, Extended Dwell Platelets, Low Titre O Whole Blood, and Spray Dried Plasma
